Applications due September 30, 2008.
Scientists, educators, clinicians, students and fellows are invited to submit abstracts for peer-review of original data obtained from basic science research, clinical trials, case studies, or any other controlled experiment. A subset of peer-reviewed papers will be selected for plenary presentation, the remainder will be invited to present in poster format. Preference for plenary session presentations will be given to abstracts reporting results of investigations that have not been previously published. However, secondary data from provocative studies which have been published recently, or papers that will be published in the interim between submitting the abstract and the conference itself, are also encouraged.
The categories for submission are:
- Basic Science
- Clinical Research
- Health Service Research
- Research Methodology
- Education Research
- Other (provided there is a hypothesis and conclusion supported by data.)
The abstract submission template provides more detailed information about the types of therapies that fall within the field of "complementary and integrative medicine."
Abstracts must be submitted online prior to midnight (in your time zone), September 30, 2008. We reserve the right to return without review any abstracts submitted late. All presenters must register and pay to attend the meeting. Some scholarships for student presenters may become available over the next year. Placing your name on the mailing list will help us keep you aware of news of any scholarships that become available.
Abstracts will be peer-reviewed in a blinded process by faculty and fellows from the 41 member schools of the Consortium of Academic Health Centers in Integrative Medicine, the sponsor of this conference, and other individuals chosen by the Scientific Review Committee and the Research Working Group.
Please direct all questions about abstract submission to the conference office by telephone 612-767-7984 or email info@imconsortium-conference.org.

The system will generate a confirmation when you press Complete. If for some reason you must correct an abstract or any other information, you will need to email a corrected template with an explanation of the changes to the conference office.
Late Breaking Abstracts
The intent of late breaking abstracts is to describe groundbreaking research advances that have not been previously submitted, presented or considered for any other scientific conference. The late breaking abstract is not a submission of work for which the earlier deadline for standard abstracts was missed. The aim is to enable the presentation of cutting-edge research for which no or insufficient preliminary information was available at the standard abstract submission deadline of September 30, 2008.
Selection Policies and Procedures
- Research must be truly novel and deemed ground breaking to warrant immediate presentation.
- Key aspects of the research must have been conducted after September 30th, 2008.
- Abstracts must not have been presented or published in whole or in part in any other scientific venue.
- Abstracts must include include specific results.
- Investigators with previously accepted abstracts may submit a late breaking abstract provided there is no overlap between previous research and late breaking research.
- Acceptance of late breaking abstracts will be carefully considered according to their scientific merit, timeliness and anticipated interest to the meeting attendees.
- The conference Planning Committee, in collaboration with the Scientific Review Committee, will decide whether late breaking abstracts will be scheduled for oral vs. poster presentation.
- A limited number of abstracts will be selected.
- All presenters are required to register and pay the registration fee for the North American Research Conference on Complementary and Integrative Medicine.
